What
sucks on this day had nothing to do with the bad tasting $5 pizza half eaten
sitting which sat on top of his stove.
It
had nothing to do with the religious program on TV letting him know that 666 is
everywhere and no matter his steps in life death is all God has to offer.
What
sucks on this day also has nothing to with a job on the brink, the Florida
heat, a girlfriend in Iraq, or a bank account in the red…What sucks today for
Justin Cole originally from Coeburn Virginia is the flies.
That
70’s Show was on TV as Justin sat down at his futon couch, in front of his
dumpster found coffee table. The flies trailed only briefly behind him as he
traveled from his small apartment kitchen to the living room area. As his body
calms they once again began to attach themselves in a swarm over every inch of
his arms. His focus was on the TV as an ad for the new X-Men movie played and
the flies begin to gather now flying around his face. His eyelids moved slowly
touching flies as they moved in and out from smelling his flesh. Then one after
the other from the top of his head, from his arms, from the space in front of
his face they attached themselves to his face, flew into his mouth- a mouth
wide open now and a face without emotion, some moving even down through his lungs.
Flies moved into his ears and begin eating with small mouths his eyes.
The
heat of the room was going up in temperature but the meter was set within a
cold range. Suddenly the apartment’s front door bursts into flames. The flames
burned getting hotter and started to engulf the whole of the apartment. Justin stood
up with blood dripping from his eyes and other parts of his body as the flies left
him and fly directly into the flames to parish.
The
flames were all throughout the living room as he walked into his bedroom and
climbed out the fire escape and down he climbed with no reasoning how he could
do so with eyes that had been eaten out by flies.
At
the bottom of the fire escape ladder and the alleyway to his apartment building
he turned and headed out toward Lake Washington Road.
These
events were not ordinary, even for Florida.
