Shane wants to die because when you find yourself no longer afraid of anything there might be only one more adventure to take on.
Everyone thinks when people commit suicide it’s all about being scared and it wouldn’t have happened if the person had gotten those fears out of their life but that’s not always the case. Having fear is a good thing. It’s a defense coming from our brains and bodies, the problems come in how we react and interpret those defense signals.
Looking down from the roof of the Ryan Industries building Shane watches people go about their lives and he envies them. Each and every one for those people is afraid of something. From fears of losing their jobs to fears of a hand coming down in a fist from the woman she loves.
Some of them are afraid to die. That’s a basic, one so within us all that it’s almost not worth mentioning.
Some afraid of taking chances to live a better life, that another pretty basic fear. It comes from the fear of change which also births just about every form of prejudice humanity has ever screamed about.
A few are afraid of women. Some afraid of puppets. Several have nightmares about terrorist attacks. That little boy in the baseball cap is afraid of spiders and that will save his life and the lives of so many others in the future when the creators make themselves known again.
Shane would love to have just one of those fears because when you’ve conquered fear you’ve also spat on love, adventure, and joy; so he leaps off the ledge, enjoys the fall, and the next thing he knows he’s shitting in the Café Suicide bathroom.
He finished, wiped, and meeting him outside the bathroom was Helen.
‘Who are you?’ Shane
‘Let us say I like to launch ships,’ Helen
They walk away arm in arm into the café for more cake and Shane is smiling. He has found fear again in these things happening that he has no understanding of.
‘That’s whole launch ships thing, that’s as drool as drool can get,’ Shane
‘Every great story has to start somewhere,’ Helen

The sale of this book without its cover….well, is, sort of, impossible since it really doesn’t have a cover but let us go through the legal spray out anyways. If you purchased this book without a cover, you should be aware that it was reported to the publisher as “unsold and destroyed.” Hands up to you who have books like this in your collection? Now that I put my hand down we can continue with the credits and copyright and legal and stuff that people just don’t ever pay attention to unless it is pumping their own horn.
